4 easy morning habits for glowing skin

Great skin starts with a good morning routine! If you observe the morning routines of people with naturally healthy and glowing skin, there are quite a few practices that you will find in common. We know many of you are struggling to keep a routine while working from home during the lockdown – But a ‘good morning’ routine is essential for your mind and body. Let’s take a look at these early morning habits that are sure to give you clearer, healthier and more radiant skin.

Rise with water

Start your day with a glass of water. As tempting as it may be to reach out for that cup of coffee first thing in the morning, keep in mind that your body needs to rehydrate itself as soon as you wake up. If plain water doesn’t sound appealing, you could add some lemon and honey to it. Green tea and coconut water are some other great beverage options for the morning. Melissa Brown opts for warm water with lemon and honey! Water as you wake assists your body in removing antioxidants and gets your metabolism working for the day. Your beloved cup of coffee can wait until you have breakfast.

Work up a Sweat

Moving your body and getting some exercise early in the morning can work wonders for your skin. Exercise is an excellent way to rid your body of toxins and to revitalize your skin and body with oxygen. There are great home workouts available online that require very little to no equipment, or you could opt for a peaceful yoga flow in the comfort of your own home.

Eat a colourful breakfast

If you’re in the habit of skipping breakfast, then it’s about time you broke that habit. There’s really no substitute for a good breakfast. A healthy and wholesome breakfast is the key to not only great skin, but to your overall health and fitness. Whether you’re trying to lose weight, build your immunity or improve the texture of your skin, eating a hearty breakfast is crucial. Make sure you include fresh fruit, protein and a slow release carbohydrate! For those who lack time, try making a fresh smoothie every morning – It’s quick, easy and mess free.

Cleanse, tone, moisturize AND protect

A morning skincare routine is non-negotiable, if you want to enhance the health of your skin. The key is to keep things quick and simple, but to use products that are gentle, nourishing and effective.

Step 1: Use a mild and gentle cleanser
Unlike in the night-time, you don’t need your cleanser to remove makeup and dirt in the morning. Instead, you should opt for something that’s mild and made with natural ingredients. Cream cleansers that are infused with the natural ingredients are ideal. Melissa opts for the NovExpert Hydrobiotic Milky Cleanser.

Step 2: Use an antioxidant-rich and alcohol-free toner
Follow this up with a gentle and nourishing toner. Make sure that your toner is alcohol-free (which will ensure that your skin does not feel excessively dry and dehydrated) and is enriched with antioxidants that will heal and revitalize your skin. Melissa’s choice, The By Terry Cellularose Hydra-Toner

Step 3: Hydrate and protect your skin
Follow up the cleansing and toning routine with a wholesome and replenishing serum that targets your specific skin concerns. Serum penetrates deeper into the skin making it an essential part of your skincare regime. Melissa aims to combat fine lines & address overall skin texture, for this she recommends the Zelens Youth Concentrate Supreme Age-Defying Serum.

Step 4: Next step is to apply your daily face moisturizer. It is important to choose a moisturizer that is right for your skin type. If you are like Melissa and have combination to dry skin, you can’t go wrong with the Supreme Day Cream from Dr Sebagh – This cream takes daily protection against environmental damage to a new level. This pioneering, “Ageing-Maintenance” moisturiser helps to shield skin against High Energy Visible light (HEV/daylight), also emitted by laptops, tablets, mobile phones and LED lights and more.

Never forget your SPF! Even if you are not spending a full day out in the sun, your skin needs protection from UVA and UVB rays at all times. You can use a plain SPF over your day cream, or you can opt for a cream that packs the punch of both! Melissa’s favourite is the Dr Russo SPF 30 Sun Protective Moisturizer.
