OUR APPROACH

WHEN PERFUME BECOMES ART

Atelier Des Ors was founded in 2015 by Jean-Philippe Clermont with a demanding and creative approach to what he calls "Belle Parfumerie". Gold, exceptional materials and craftsmanship, a curious eye on the world are our ORS, our guides. While Jean Philippe's sources of inspiration are manifold and rooted in a hybrid, eclectic background and culture, they all converge on a quest for Beauty and Elegance as an art of living.

Gold is both material and symbol. For us, it encapsulates an approach akin to alchemy: that of starting from the evidence of a sublime and fascinating material, gold, and from an exceptional and meticulous know-how to transform and transmute it into a precious imagination. Matter and know-how are merely the starting point for a poetic look at the world, a prism through which the imagination is invited and summoned, a bridge to another reality that everyone is free to create.

Plural, rich in history and values such as universality, transmission, respect and openness to the world, Atelier Des Ors is obviously shaped by the singular personality of its founder.
Our materials and the exceptional know-how behind them are nothing more than vectors towards a multiple elsewhere that everyone can imagine.

GOLD, PERFUME AND THE ALCHEMY OF EMOTIONS

For Atelier Des Ors, gold represents a quest for the absolute—an eternal pursuit of beauty, excellence, and emotion. For founder Jean-Philippe Clermont, the union of perfume and gold was an obvious one: perfume melting into the skin like a sensual veil and gold as a jewel that ones wear.

The connexion was also natural, with both sharing a profound connection to the divine. Symbol of fascination across civilizations, gold was used to honor deities and embody the sacred. Similarly, perfume, born from ancient rituals, was once a bridge between earth and the divine, its fragrant smoke—‘per fumum’—carrying prayers to the heavens.

Said to be born from the heart of the stars, gold is a celestial gift: a fragment of eternity woven into the fabric of existence. Like stardust, the 24 carat gold flakes in our fragrances carries the mystery of creation and brings an eternal elegance to each creation for a timeless experience.

For us, gold is also that precious liquid: perfume, and the exceptional materials that go into it. A mysterious liquid, it is the gold of emotions, appealing to the power of olfactory memory. Its evocative power is infinite…

And for an even more exclusive experience, our master gilders magnify our creations and enhance their artistic dimension. The meticulous work of these craftsmen turns our bottles into precious jewels…

We contemplate it, browse through it briefly or over a longer period, then when the time is right, we close it and put it back in its place for future enjoyment.

Marie and I create fragrances so that they live on and are at the heart of the lives of those who use them. We are the artisans and archivists of their olfactory memories.

THE DUO BEHIND THE CREATION

Throughout his career, Jean-Philippe has always pursued an aesthetic quest through the arts in all their forms. Particularly sensitive to the fusion of disciplines, he fully embraces the spirit of Gesamtkunstwerk, that total work of art in which music, architecture, painting and staging respond to and enrich each other.

His attachment to elegance is also expressed in a true French art de vivre - a subtle blend of culture, history, refinement and attention to detail. He sees it as the expression of discerning taste, an aesthetic nurtured by respect for know-how, a love of fine manners and meticulous craftsmanship. These are values he finds in craftsmen, whose rigor and passion he deeply admires.

For him, this art of living is also embodied in the art of hosting: conviviality, the warmth of shared moments, the importance of human ties. He also cherishes history, old stones, antique tableware, delicately crafted objects with the patina of time - silent witnesses to forgotten but still living stories.

All these aspects of the French art of living have always marked out the career of this lover of beauty in all its forms, and adept at a permanent gastronomy of the eye.

From the outset, Marie Salamagne, perfume designer at dsm-firmenich, has accompanied Jean Philippe in his creations. It's a long-term partnership that creates a unique relationship and enables the development of a true olfactory identity.

She was chosen for her talent and her vision of perfume. For her, the perfumer embodies both the craftsman and the artist.

"A good perfume is like a Proust's madeleine. It has the power to transport, and the emotion it arouses is uncontrollable and powerful. It's an entity in itself." She visualizes her creations as tableaux, where hues create contrasts.
